The Arrival: Arik Levy

Documenting the installation of the new structural sculpture in the lower gardens and its dialogue with the Provençal landscape.

A Structural Dialogue

In late 2025, the lower gardens of Toile Blanche underwent a quiet but profound transformation. The arrival of a major structural work by Arik Levy marked a significant moment in the evolution of our “Declared Artwork.”

Levy’s work does not merely sit in the garden; it interrogates it.

The Weight of Light

The sculpture—a characteristic exploration of industrial form and natural geometry—was positioned to interact with the sharp, southern light that defines Saint-Paul de Vence. Arik Levy, an artist who famously navigates the space between the emotional and the technical, chose a site where the shadows of the surrounding pines create a constantly shifting grid across the sculpture’s surface.

“The work is not static,” Levy noted during the installation. “It is a collector of time.”

Materiality and Resistance

Crafted from high-performance materials that reflect both the sky and the earth, the piece serves as a visual anchor. It provides a contemporary counterpoint to the 200-year-old stone walls of the farmhouse. This tension between the ancient masonry and the modern precision of the sculpture is central to the Leroy Brothers’ vision for the estate.

It is a reminder that Toile Blanche is a place of resistance—resisting the generic and the expected.

The Archival Impact

By documenting this arrival, we add another layer to the permanent record of the estate. The sculpture now belongs to the landscape as much as the vines and the olive trees. It is the first of several major international commissions that will further solidify Toile Blanche’s status as a living gallery.

As the garden matures around the work, the boundary between the “Found” and the “Created” continues to blur.
